Fire Destroys Political Analyst Mutahi Ngunyi's Runda Mansion

John Wanjohi Jul 14, 2021

Renowned political analyst Prof. Mutahi Ngunyi is counting losses after a fire gutted down his mansion in Nairobi's upscale Runda estate.

Blogger and former State House digital communications director Dennis Itumbi was the first to break the news about the Wednesday morning fire incident on social media.

The inferno erupted at around 1:45 am and consumed the house that Ngunyi says he has owned for the past 27 years.

Responding to a tweet by Itumbi, Ngunyi, who runs the Fifth Estate YouTube channel, suggested that there was a political hand in the incident. He linked the fire incident to his earlier remarks on the January 1st, 2008 Kiambaa massacre where at least 40 people were burnt alive inside KAG Church in Kiambaa, Uasin Gishu County at the height of the 2007/08 post-election violence.

“My FREN @OleItumbi MY house in Runda for 27 years WENT on FIRE at 1.45 am. You TOLD the Hustlers at 2.01 am. About 16 minutes LATER. That is after I talked about KIAMBAA violence of 2008 on 5th Estate. Here is a BETTER picture than the one you POSTED. Enjoy,” Ngunyi tweeted.

Police and the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) are yet to comment about the incident.
