Gov't Chemist Confirms Governor Okoth Obado Sired Sharon Otieno's Unborn Baby
The trial of Migori Governor Zachary Okoth Obado over the murder of Sharon Otieno and her unborn child entered day three at Milimani law courts on Wednesday.
The court heard that Obado, who is the prime suspect in the murder case, was the biological father of Sharon’s unborn baby.
Obado is charged alongside his Personal Assistant Michael Oyamo and Migori County Clerk Caspal Obiero.
Forensic analyst at Government Chemist John Kimani Mungai said DNA profiles that were tested were generated from buccal swabs from Sharon, Oyamo, the foetus, and Obado.
He testified that from the examination, there are 99.99 percent chances that Obado is the biological father to the donor of the DNA generated from the foetus.
Mungai through a report signed on March 11th, 2020 also stated that the DNA from the semen in the used condom found at the scene was of unknown male origin and did not match any of the three accused persons.
On Tuesday, government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor told the court that Sharon suffered seven stab and two slash wounds.
The first stab wound was so severe that it went through her womb, leading to the death of the unborn baby. The foetus suffered stab wounds on its upper belly, the court heard.
Sharon, a second-year student at Rongo University, disappeared on September 3rd, 2018 in Migori and was found dead near Kodera Forest two days later.
Governor Obado confessed he was in a love affair with the 26-year-old mother of three.
Hearing of the murder case continues on Thursday.
