Kenyans Online Troll Comedian Elsa Majimbo After South Africa Violence
Kenyans on social media are trolling comedian Elsa Majimbo over the ongoing violence in South Africa.
In May, the 20-year-old comedian announced she was relocating to South Africa and vowed never to return to Kenya, terming the country unsafe for her to live.
She accused Kenyans of bullying her as well as being toxic and unsupportive, making it hard for her to live peacefully in Nairobi.
“I found happiness outside (of Kenya). I don’t know where I am going and yesterday my sister suggested traveling back to Nairobi to which I declined. It is the worst option possible. I will go back to South Africa where I know I have a home. South Africans supported and defended me from Kenyan bullies. Kenya is not that place (to call home),” she said during an interview in Dubai.
Following the outbreak of ugly protests in South Africa in the wake of former President Jacob Zuma’s jailing, a section of Kenyans online are challenging Majimbo to address the situation in “her country.”
@master_vinnie sarcastically tweeted, “Where is our sister Elsa Majimbo, the South African citizen? Is South Africa safe from there? I believe there is no looting going on right now. I guess the media is lying to us. Lemme tell you in Kenya we are fighting now.”
@abuga_makori said, “A few months ago, I questioned Elsa Majimbo’s attitude to our country, Kenya. She openly said Kenya is not safe. He even said in a serious society, she should face treason. You all abused me just coz I am a patriot. Let her now talk of violence in South Africa. Or she’s young?”
@ValentineMwamburi posed, “So Elsa Majimbo jumped from frying pan into the fire, see what is happening in SA right now. Hope she is safe there.”
