Former Imenti Central MP Gideon Mwiti Dies

John Wanjohi Jul 25, 2021

Former Imenti Central Member of Parliament Gideon Mwiti had died at the age of 57.

Mwiti passed away on Sunday morning while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital following a short illness.

His family said the deceased was in good health until Saturday night when he suddenly developed diabetes-related complications and was rushed to the hospital where he died hours later.

Mwiti represented the Imenti Central constituency in parliament between 2013 and 2017 when his attempt to defend the seat failed.

The politician hit media headlines in 2015 after he was accused of raping a woman at Tana Club along Woodvale Grove in Nairobi’s Westlands area.

In 2018, he was charged with rape alongside Dr. David Muchiri, who allegedly carried out an involuntary HIV test on the complainant.

The two pleaded not guilty to three counts of rape, intimidation, and assault. The case is still pending in court.

Mwiti also faced bankruptcy proceedings in 2018 after his financial company collapsed with more than 6 million in savings of 6,000 members.
