Girl Who Scored 401 Marks in KCPE Repeats Class 8 After Missing Out on County Scholarship

A girl who scored 401 marks in the 2020 KCPE exam has been forced to repeat Class Eight due to lack of school fees.

Diana Nyokabi’s parents are unable to raise the Sh53,554 required for her admission to Moi Girls High School, Eldoret.

Her dream of joining the prestigious high school was shattered after she was knocked out of the county scholarship program under unclear circumstances.

Nyokabi, who hails from Bungoma, was among the top performers at Bungoma D.E.B. Primary School in last year’s KCPE exam.

Her mother Priscilla Nyanchera enrolled her back to Bungoma D.E.B Primary School on Wednesday.

“I have been selling groceries for a very long time and educating my daughter hoping that in the future she will be able to assist me,” Nyanchera told Citizen Digital.

The teenager had been selected to benefit from the Bungoma County scholarship program under Governor Wycliffe Wangamati but her name was mysteriously expunged from the list.

Nyokabi and her family appealed to any well-wisher to help her continue with her studies.

Bungoma D.E.B Primary School headteacher Tobias Khisa said he received the girl back with great shock and fears that her situation may demoralize other learners in the school.
