Blogger Dennis Itumbi Survives Alleged 'Assassination Attempt'

Deputy President William Ruto’s allies claim that there was an assassination attempt against blogger Dennis Itumbi on Friday night.

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party Director of Communications Wanjohi Githae was the first to report about the incident, saying Itumbi survived the 8:00 pm attack.

“There has been an assassination attempt on Dennis Itumbi shortly after 8 pm this evening. Thank God he is safe,” Gitahe wrote on Facebook.

In a statement recorded at Kasarani police station under OB Number 115/13/8/2021, Itumbi said he was headed to Red Sports Restaurant to pick supper when the incident occurred at Garden estate. 

"His motor vehicle was blocked by an unidentified motor vehicle. He became suspicious and thus decided to hit the said motor vehicle so that he can gain access to speed off. As he was trying to get an escape route he heard gunshots being fired towards his speeding motor vehicle," the statement reads in part.

Police officers led by Kasarani sub-county police commander Peter Mwanzo said they did not find any spent cartridge when they visited the scene of the alleged incident. Locals at the scene also said they did not hear the gunshots.
