Kenya Finishes Atop the World Athletics Under-20 Championships with 17 Medals
Kenya retained the overall title in the World Athletics Under-20 Championships held at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
As the event came to a close on Sunday, Kenya bagged eight medals including three gold, one silver, and four bronze to finish at the top of the medal standings.
Emmanuel Wanyonyi (800m), Purity Chepkirui (1500m), and Amos Serem (3000m steeplechase) bagged gold medals while Zena Cheptoo (5000m) took home silver.
Noah Kibet (800m), Winnie Chemutai (1500m), and Simon Koech scooped bronze medals while the quartet of Joshua Wanyonyi, Elkanah Kiprotich, Kennedy Kimeu, and Peter Kithome bagged a bronze in the men’s 4x400m relay.
Cumulatively, the country won 17 medals (eight gold, two silver, and seven bronze), thereby surpassing her tally of 11 medals from the 2018 championships held in Tampere, Finland.
The 19th edition of the World Under-20 Championships will be held in Cali, Colombia next year.
