John Wanjohi Aug 29, 2021

Five people were killed after the vehicle they were traveling in was involved in a road accident along the Nakuru-Kericho highway.

The Sunday morning crash occurred at Londian junction after the 14-seater public service vehicle lost control and veered off the road before rolling multiple times and landing on a ditch full of rocks.

Confirming the incident, Londiani OCPD Joseph Mutungi said the driver of the matatu lost control after its left rear tyre burst.

Three people were killed on the spot while two others died of their injuries while undergoing treatment at Londiani Sub-County Hospital where they were rushed after the accident.

The occupants of the ill-fated vehicle were en route to Kisumu city to celebrate the birthday of one of them.

Five other passengers suffered serious injuries and were treated at Londiani hospital. Two of them are in stable condition while the other three have since been transferred to Kericho County Referral Hospital.

The bodies of the deceased were transferred to Molo Sub-County Hospital mortuary.

The incident comes days after six people were killed in another accident involving a matatu and a truck along Nakuru-Nairobi highway.

The shuttle collided head-on with an oncoming lorry near Greansteads International School on Wednesday evening.
