Court Orders Arrest of Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua
The court has issued a warrant of arrest against Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua for defying orders to pay a businessman over Sh5.5 million.
Mutua was on July 30th, 2020 ordered by the Machakos Environment and Land Court to pay businessman David Gitau Thairu a sum of Sh5,590,443.15 in a dumpsite case.
This included a decretal amount of Sh5 million and a collection fee accumulated to Sh590,443.15.
Magistrate CN Ondieki on Wednesday directed the OCS in charge of Machakos Police Station to arrest Governor Mutua and present him in court unless he pays the said amount.
“You are further commanded to return this warrant as soon as it is executed or the money noted in the margin is tendered to you with an endorsement certifying the day on which and manner in which it has been executed, or the reason why it has not been executed,” Magistrate Ondieki wrote to the OCS.
Thairu was awarded the amount after he sued Mutua and the county government of Machakos for dumping waste on his parcel of land.
