Presidential Aspirant Jimmy Wanjigi's Convoy Stoned By Rowdy Youths in Migori
Presidential aspirant Jimmy Wanjingi was on Friday forced to scamper for safety after rowdy youths stoned his convoy in Migori.
Wanjigi, who is on a tour of Luo Nyanza, was addressing a roadside rally in Migori town when youths started hurling stones at him.
A viral video showed the billionaire addressing a rally from the sunroof of his vehicle before he was pelted with stones. He hurriedly got back into the car before his convoy sped off.
“Nikisema ODM, Mnasema Fagia Wote,” Wanjigi said before his speech was cut short.
Police officers were forced to lob teargas and fire in the air to restore normalcy.
Wanjigi, who will battle it out with Raila Odinga for the ODM presidential ticket, kicked off his tour of Nyanza on Thursday.
ODM leaders led by secretary-general Edwin Sifuna and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed condemned the incident.
“My office is in contact with the office in Migori for a full brief on reported cases of violence targeted at one of our members Mr. Jimmy Wanjigi. I have also tried to reach Mr. Wanjigi on phone to confirm he is OK. Full brief to follow,” Sifuna said.
Junet said: “As a leader of Migori County I take great exception to the incident earlier today where a political event was disrupted. While sponsors of political chaos in Migori are known, myself having been a victim on numerous occasions, this cannot go on.”
Wanjigi is expected to visit Siaya County on Saturday before concluding his tour in Kisumu on Sunday, where he will attend a church service at Kibuye Catholic church.
