Uhuru and Raila Have Betrayed Me, Deputy President William Ruto Says

John Wanjohi Sep 18, 2021

Deputy President William Ruto has accused President Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga of betraying him and being ungrateful.vHe said he helped the two to ascend to top positions in the government but they have ganged up to scuttle his 2022 presidential bid.

Ruto, who is eying the presidency next year, said he was instrumental in Uhuru and Raila’s journey to becoming president and prime minister respectively.

“I campaigned for Raila Odinga in 2007 to the point I was almost being locked up in Hague. I helped my friend Uhuru Kenyatta to become President in the 2013 and 2017 general elections. Now, they have teamed up to lock me out of the presidency, claiming my father was a nobody in Kenya,” said Ruto.

“Even the child of a single mother can become President in this country. Let them go away,” he added.

Ruto spoke on Saturday in Malava, Kakamega County, where he stated that Kenyans are no longer interested in politics of amending the constitutions and sharing leadership positions.

“This time around, we are not concentrating on changing the Constitution to create positions for a few prominent people. We are concentrating on the bottom-up economic model. At the centre of the model, are the low-income people such as mama mbogas and bodaboda operators,” Ruto said.
