Nairobi MCAs Seek to Rename Mbagathi Way After Raila Odinga
ODM leader Raila Odinga may have a road named after him if Nairobi MCAs approve a motion sponsored by Minority Whip Peter Imwatok.
Imwatok, who will move the motion this week, is seeking to have Mbagathi Way renamed Raila Odinga Road in honor of the former Prime Minister.
The Makongeni Ward Representative argues that Odinga mooted the plan to build Mbagathi Way during his tenure as Lang’ata MP and Minister for Roads and Public Works.
“We should appreciate deserving leaders while they are still alive [rather than] when they die,” Imwatok told the house.
He added: “It pains me that people who didn't do anything to impact the society positively are being appreciated more than those who sacrificed including by giving their own life for the good of our country.”
The MCA further indicated that Odinga deserves recognition due to his immense contribution to the nation, saying he fought for democracy, good governance, and the rule of law.
He also cited Odinga’s development track record that saw him appointed as the Africa Union’s high representative for infrastructure development.
Imwatok said Odinga’s handshakes with both President Kenyatta and retired president Mwai Kibaki restored peace and harmony in the country.
