Anne Waiguru Hints at Joining Ruto's UDA Party
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has hinted at joining the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ahead of the 2022 general elections.
Waiguru, who spoke on Wednesday, gave the clearest indication that she is considering seeking re-election under the Deputy President William Ruto-linked party.
Addressing members of the public at Thiba area in Mwea Constituency, the first-time governor said she will follow the will of Kirinyaga residents, who want her to join UDA.
When she asked area residents on which ticket she should defend her seat, they chanted UDA.
“Mtanirudisha 2022 kama governor wa Kirinyaga?… Mliskia nikisema mimi naskiza watu wa Kirinyaga? Nilisema nitafanya vile watu wa Kirinyaga wanasema. Kwa sababu mumesema mutanirudisha, mnataka nikuje na chama gani huku Kirinyaga? Nikuje na chama gani? posed Waiguru as the crowd chanted UDA.
Waiguru was in the company of County Assembly Majority Leader James Murango and Thiba MCA Pius Njogu.
Should Waiguru decamp to UDA, she will face off Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici, who is eyeing the gubernatorial seat under the UDA ticket.
