Ruto Demands Apology from Uhuru, Raila for Forcing BBI on Kenyans

John Wanjohi Sep 24, 2021

Deputy President William Ruto has asked President Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga to apologize to Kenyans for fronting the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

Ruto termed BBI, a brainchild of Uhuru and Raila, as the most “dangerous assignment” carried out by the government to mutilate the Constitution.

He accused its proponents of lying to Kenyans that BBI was the only route of increasing resources to counties and creating additional constituencies.

“Counties can still be given more funds through Parliament without the conmanship in the BBI. If Kenyans needed more constituencies, then IEBC would have been engaged,” Ruto stated.

The deputy president said BBI promoters ought to apologize for sabotaging the government’s Big Four Agenda that included manufacturing, universal health coverage, affordable housing, and food security.

“It [Big Four Agenda] would have created millions of jobs opportunities besides ensuring that all Kenyans have access to affordable medical care. But all these gains went down the drain because of the BBI,” he added.

Ruto stated that there was no way BBI was going to pass despite intimidations and huge resources used, terming it as “the biggest fraud and the most dangerous assignment” ever pursued in the history of Kenya.

He argued that it would have destroyed the country’s democratic ideals because of the creation of an imperial president.

“It must therefore fail, and die forever,” Ruto remarked.

BBI was declared unconstitutional by both the high court and the appellate court.
