Gov't Addresses Influx of Asian Immigrants into Kenya

John Wanjohi Sep 29, 2021

The government has issued a statement regarding the high number of Asians arriving in Kenya.

Government spokesperson Col. Cyrus Oguna said most of the Asians are tourists coming to the country for holiday. He pointed out that the foreigners followed due process before they were allowed into the country and are in possession of legitimate passports.

“They are tourists in the country legally and some usually prefer staying and traveling as families,” Oguna said.

The government issued the statement following concerns over the influx of Asians into Nairobi in the recent past.

Recently, a video of a large group of people of Asian descent trooping to an estate in Nairobi went viral on social media, with Kenyans online questioning their presence and mission in the country.

Nation reported that the country has witnessed an upsurge in the number of Asian people coming to Nairobi.

It also emerged that some of the Asians spotted in Nairobi were casual laborers who were to be taken to another country but were left stranded at a hotel in Machakos due to the high bills being demanded by hotels.

Others were also booked in other accommodation facilities located in Nyayo Estate, Syokimau, Athi River, Kitengela, Kahawa West, Kenyatta Road and Magadi Road.
