Over 60,000 Kenyans Apply for 500 Judiciary Jobs in 21 Days

John Wanjohi Nov 04, 2021

Chief Justice Martha Koome says over 60,000 Kenyans applied for the recently advertised 500 jobs in the judiciary.

In what exposes the state of unemployment in the country, Koome said the judiciary received the applications in 21 days between October 8th and 29th.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) invited applications for 500 positions in the judiciary on October 8th. The vacancies ranged from drivers, law clerks, court assistants, court clerks, and engineers, among others.

Applicants were required to submit their applications online on or before October 29th.

On Thursday, Koome indicated that JSC received an overwhelming response, adding that some candidates were unable to access the judiciary portal due to high traffic.

As a result, the JSC held a meeting and resolved to extend the deadline for application to November 12th.

"At the close of the application window on 29th October 2021, the commission had received more than 60,000 applicants for these vacancies,” Koome said in a statement.

"Members of the public to note that the application portal will reopen on Monday, 8th November 2021, and will close at 5 PM on Friday, 12th November 2021. Those who submitted their applications before the original deadline should not reapply.”
