I'm Worth Sh300 Million, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi Says

John Wanjohi Nov 18, 2021

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has called for a public lifestyle audit on leaders ahead of the 2022 general election.

Muturi, who is seeking to succeed President Kenyatta next year, says all leaders should explain how they accumulated their wealth.

“I support a lifestyle audit on all leaders plus an explanation of how all their wealth was acquired and this should not be done in secret,” Muturi said on Thursday.

During a live engagement with his Twitter followers on Thursday, a former Siakago MP, divulged that he is worth about Sh300 million. “I am worth approximately Sh300 million. Most of my property was acquired through bank loans and civil servant remuneration for 36 years,” he added.

A bill has been presented to the Senate seeking to have all state officers declare their wealth as part of the efforts to tame runaway corruption.

Muturi, who has served as the Speaker of National Assembly since 2013, has declared he will run for the presidency under the DP party ticket. Others who are eying the presidency in next year’s elections include ODM leader Raila Odinga, Deputy President William Ruto, and ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi.
