Former Speaker Francis Ole Kaparo Embroiled in a Bitter Divorce with Wife of 40 Years
Mary Mpereina, the wife of former National Assembly Speaker Francis Ole Kaparo has filed for divorce from her husband.
Mpereina in papers filed before Chief Magistrate Emily Ominde of Kiambu law courts accuses her husband of desertion and infidelity.
She claims that Kaparo has been cohabiting with a woman named Korere Paulata at Eden Ville estate off Kiambu Road, adding that he has admitted to having affairs with women known to her. She adds that her husband has questioned the paternity of some of their children.
“On several occasions, the respondent disappeared from the matrimonial home for a long period without any explanation and eventually went away,” Mpereina says in court papers.
Mpereina states that she has never consented to her husband marrying a second wife and would never agree to share a husband.
In his defense, Kaparo accuses his wife of desertion, having an extramarital affair, and being a constant drunkard and cruel.
“The respondent denies the allegations of cruelty, desertion, and adultery and further avers that it is the petitioner who has been guilty of cruelty, adultery, and desertion,” he says.
Kaparo says he was one time admitted to the hospital for five months but Mpereina did not bother to visit him even for one day. He adds that he was forced to leave the house in the middle of the night on several occasions to avoid violent confrontations with his wife.
The couple has been married for 40 years and has four children together.
Kaparo served as Speaker of the National Assembly between 1993 and 2007 and Chairperson of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) from 2014 to 2019.
The case will be mentioned on May 17th, 2022.
