Uhuru Hails Kenyan Company That Manufactured and Exported 70 Million Covid-19 Vaccine Syringes

John Wanjohi Dec 01, 2021

President Kenyatta has hailed Kenyan company Revital Healthcare for being among the largest producers of Covid-19 vaccine syringes in the world.

The president says the company exported over 70 million syringes to more than 20 countries around the world in 2020 alone, making it the largest producer of Covid-19 vaccine syringes in Africa.

Kenyatta, who spoke during this year’s State of the Nation Address in parliament on Tuesday, acknowledged the company’s role in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic and spearheading the country’s economy in terms of innovation in the manufacturing sector.

“…Revital currently has the capacity to produce 300 million Covid vaccine syringes every year. The global shortage for the COVID-19 syringes stands at two billion and this alone is taking advantage of opportunities,” Kenyatta stated.

He added: “This means that Revital company is able to produce one out of every 10 Covid-19 vaccine syringes globally.”

Revital Healthcare is an EPZ company based in Kilifi and focuses on making single-use syringes, needles, auto-disable syringes, syringes for fixed-dose immunization, infusion sets, blood transfusion sets, and blood collection tubes.

This month, the medical supply manufacturer announced it had received $4 million from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to expand its syringe production volume from approximately 72 million to 265 million annually by the end of 2022.
