Isaac Mwaura Readmitted to Senate Months After Ouster from Jubilee Party

John Wanjohi Dec 01, 2021

Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura was on Wednesday readmitted to the Senate months after his expulsion from the Jubilee party.

This comes after High Court judge Joseph Sergon last week quashed the ruling party’s decision to oust Mwaura, saying that due process was not followed and that he was not accorded a fair hearing.

The court directed that Mwaura, who challenged his expulsion from Jubilee, be reinstated as a Senator and barred the Registrar of Political Parties from deregistering him from the party.

“This court has come to the conclusion that the Jubilee Party’s National Disciplinary Committee processes and the decision that follows was unlawful,” the judge added.

Following his expulsion in May, Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka declared his seat vacant through a gazette notice.

Jubilee's National Management Committee (NMC) expelled Mwaura on grounds of disciplinary violations.

Mwaura, who is eying the Ruiru parliamentary seat in 2022, was formally reinstated to the Senate by Speaker Kenneth Lusaka on Wednesday.

"....the High Court having quashed Gazette notice no. 4598 dated May 11th, 2021, by the chairperson of IEBC which appointed Mr Sammy Prisa Leshore to replace Isaac Mwaura as a member of the senate representing PWDs, I therefore direct that Isaac Mwaura Maigua, CBS, MP, remains as Senator in accordance with the Constitution of Kenya and the Senate Standing Orders," Speaker Lusaka said.

Jubilee nominated Mwaura to the Senate in 2017 to represent persons living with disabilities.
