Mt Kenya Tycoons Throw Weight Behind Raila's 2022 Presidential Bid
The Mount Kenya Foundation (MKF) on Wednesday threw their weight behind ODM leader Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential bid.
The foundation made up of wealthy businesspeople drawn from the Mt Kenya region endorsed the candidature of Odinga in a meeting held at Safari Park Hotel.
“The purpose of today’s meeting is to host the forthcoming president of Kenya so that we can escort him to Kasarani for Azimio la Umoja,” MKF Chairman Peter Munga said.
The meeting was attended by senior government officials including four Cabinet Secretaries from Mt Kenya region, Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho, four governors, and several MPs. The resolutions of the meeting were read by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya.
“Azimio la Umoja guarantees the continuity of the legacy and projects implemented by President Uhuru Kenyatta. The people of Mt. Kenya have no confidence in sweet talking people who want to take advantage of our problems and use them as fodder for electioneering without offering concrete solutions.”
“We have also witnessed what corruption can do to an economy and cannot imagine a Kenya where looters are in-charge. Our economy-related issues are complex and cannot be reduced to a mere slogan, catchy phrases or handouts,” said Munya in reference to Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential bid.
MKF said they settled on Odinga because he has demonstrated commitment to “guarantee our fair share of government commensurate with our real population strength. A commitment to increase the devolution fund and respect for property rights.”
Odinga, who is expected to formally declare his State House bid at the Azimio La Umoja national convention at Kasarani Stadium on Friday, was present in the meeting.
