DCI Issues a Warning to Kenyans over Fake Police Clearance Certificates

John Wanjohi Dec 11, 2021

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has warned Kenyans against acquiring fake police clearance certificates, commonly known as certificates of good conduct.

This follows a surge in cases of persons in possession of police clearance certificates allegedly generated into their email accounts from the DCI.

The DCI suspects that applicants who are unwilling to follow the due application process are colluding with rogue persons to generate the fake documents.

“It is hereby advised that all Police Clearance Certificates are directly generated into the Ecitizen platform, and as such, any application generated through an individual's email is outright forgery and not issued by the DCI,” DCI said in a statement.

The investigating agency urged members of the public to only apply for the certificates on the designated e-citizen portal.

“…we advise all members of the public to submit their PCC applications through ecitizen, the platform where processed certificates are uploaded for their access.”

The DCI warned that anyone caught perpetrating this offense will be liable to prosecution.
