KRA Announces Plan to Change its Name as it Seeks to Rebrand

John Wanjohi Dec 17, 2021

Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced plans to rebrand itself with a new name as part of the efforts to improve service delivery to taxpayers.

Francis Muthaura, the chairman of the KRA board says the tax agency is seeking to drop the term “authority” and replace it with the name “service”.

He told Business Daily that the term “authority” does not symbolize KRA’s main mandate which is to offer high-quality services to Kenyan taxpayers.

“It sometimes has a connotation of a command. It is like we are in a command position. Commanding is not the real role of KRA,” Muthaura said.

“We are the servants of the people who are the taxpayers. We are giving them services. We are working with the people and it is for this reason that we strongly believe that our role is of service delivery to the people.”

At the same time, Muthaura says rebranding will help the taxman to enhance service delivery and increase revenue collection through the existing tax policies.

“We have geared up towards expansion of the tax base as a tool for establishing a stable equilibrium in the taxation equation. In other words, we are looking at a tax regime that is conducive for business and economic transformation while at the same time enabling us raise adequate revenue to finance our country’s development agenda,” Muthaura added.
