Journalist Hussein Mohammed Appointed Head of Communications in Ruto Presidential Campaign

John Wanjohi Jan 25, 2022

Renowned TV journalist Hussein Mohammed has been appointed head of communications in the Deputy President William Ruto Presidential Campaign.

His appointment comes more than a year after he left Royal Media Services where he worked as a news anchor for Citizen TV for 10 years.

“It has been a wonderful 10 years at Citizen TV. I have enjoyed and relished every moment I shared with my colleagues at RMS. I have decided to take a break after October In Sha Allah to concentrate on other matters,” he announced in October 2019.

The journalist is said to have moved into consultancy and runs a media company called Iris Media. During his time at Citizen TV, Hussein interviewed some of the country’s top political leaders including President Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto, and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Hussein is expected to manage media relations for Ruto’s campaign in the run-up to the August 9th presidential election.

Ruto is considered a frontrunner in the race to succeed President Kenyatta and is promising to use the bottom-up economic model to revive the country’s fortune if elected this year.

The deputy president will contest for the country’s topmost political seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket. He will go head-to-head with ODM leader Raila Odinga, who will be making his fifth stab at the presidency under the ‘Azimio La Umoja’ movement.
