Senator Beth Mugo's Husband Cremated in a Private Ceremony in Nairobi
Nominated Senator Beth Mugo’s husband Nicholas Muratha Mugo has been cremated, a day after his death.
The Standard reports that the remains of ambassador Mugo were cremated in a private ceremony held at Kariokor Crematorium in Nairobi on Friday.
The 86-year-old career diplomat and businessman died at the Nairobi Hospital on Thursday morning after a long illness.
President Kenyatta in a message of condolence described Mugo as a patriotic and dedicated person, who was among the few Kenyans that played a leading role in laying a firm foundation for the country’s progress.
“We appreciate that during our early days of independence, he was able to represent our nation as a diplomat in the United Kingdom and later at the UN General Assembly where, together with other Kenyans, he effectively represented Kenya’s interests at the global arena,” said Kenyatta.
The deceased served as Kenya’s ambassador in several countries including France, Yugoslavia, The Vatican, Ethiopia, and Sudan.
Mugo was among the beneficiaries of the airlift scholarship fund established by the late Tom Mboya in partnership with former US president John F. Kennedy to take young bright Africans to the US and Canada for further studies. He studied history and political science at Warren Wilson College in the US.
