John Wanjohi Feb 09, 2022

State House’s budget has been increased by Sh1.89 billion to Sh5.88 billion in the latest supplementary budget tabled by the Treasury to parliament for review.

Business Daily reports that the increments include funds for the purchase of cars, local travel, and an undisclosed allocation labeled other ‘operating expenses’.

The budget for car purchase by State House has been increased to Sh300 million from Sh10 million while the fuel allocation has been revised upwards by Sh25 million to Sh98.9 million.

Sh1.05 billion has been set aside for ‘other operating expenses’ on top of the Sh1.2 billion approved by MPs last year. An additional Sh205 million has been allocated on travel and accommodation, Sh41 million for machinery purchase, and Sh20 million for car maintenance.

Similarly, the budget for the Deputy President’s office has been increased from Sh1.41 billion to Sh1.43 billion while Sh31.6 million has been set aside for refurbishing Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s office.

The State House budget increment, which comes six months before President Kenyatta exits office, is the highest among all ministries and departments.
