Murang'a Woman Rep. Sabina Chege Summoned by IEBC over Election Rigging Claims
Murang'a Woman Representative Sabina Chege is in trouble over her claims on vote-rigging in the 2017 general election.
Chege has been summoned by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to shed light on the allegations. She is required to appear before IEBC’s Electoral Code of Conduct Enforcement Committee on February 15th.
"Whereas the commission is seized of a report and material against yourself in regard to violation of clause 6(0) and 6(1) of the Electoral Code of Conduct, you are hereby required to attend the Offices of the Commission at Anniversary Towers 6th floor on the 15th day of February 2022 at 9.00 o'clock," reads the summon letter.
Speaking during an ‘Azimio La Umoja’ rally in Vihiga County on Thursday, Sabina said allegations that the 2017 election was rigged in favor of President Kenyatta and the Jubilee party were true, adding that the same could be done in this year’s election.
"Mnajua kule Central nimeskia wengine wakisema tuliwaibia. Kuna ka ukweli kidogo. Lakini kama tulijua kuiba... si hata hii tutafanya ninii... Kwani wanafikiria wao ndio wajanja? she posed.
“Lakini sisi tuko na watu na baba ametembea kwa watu, na amekuwa the people’s project, na tunataka awe the people’s president.”
Deputy President William Ruto, who is eyeing the presidency this year, dismissed Sabina’s claims, insisting that Jubilee was voted overwhelmingly by Kenyans in a free and fair election.
“There is one woman [Sabina Chege] from Azimio who said that Uhuru and I stole votes in 2017. I want to ask you the people of Nakuru, were your votes stolen? Did you not vote for us? We did not steal anyone’s votes. The people of Azimio should stop threatening people with accusations of stealing votes. I was in charge of the election and Uhuru did not steal anyone’s votes,” Ruto said in Nakuru on Friday.
