A Kenyan man has been handed a life sentence after he was found guilty of violently robbing his Chinese employer.

Robert Kubasu was accused of forcefully stealing Sh30,000 and a mobile phone from his employer in Kilimani.

The court heard that the accused committed the offense on September 25th, 2019 at Silver Harbour Apartments on Kindaruma road.

This happened after he encountered his employer Chen Daisheng inside an elevator in the apartment block.

“I opened the main door of the unit and all of a sudden I saw Robert removing a panga and started threatening me by waving and shouting a language that I could not understand,” Daisheng told the court.

Daisheng’s housemaid intervened and informed him that Kubasu was demanding Sh30,000. The Chinese national complied and handed the money to the accused, who took his mobile phone before he fled the scene.

“He waved the panga to me and threatened to cut me. He demanded that I give him Sh30, 000 and after that, he ran away,” he added.

Daisheng reported the matter to Kilimani Police Station and the accused was arrested.

While issuing the sentence, Kibera Senior Principal Magistrate Esther Boke said the prosecution proved the case against Kubasu beyond reasonable doubt. Kubasu has been given 14 days to appeal the sentence if he wishes to do so.
