Raila’s Elder Brother Oburu Odinga Launches Bid for Siaya Senatorial Seat
East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Oburu Odinga is set to vie for the Siaya senatorial seat in the August 9th elections.
Oburu, the elder brother of ODM leader Raila Odinga, officially launched his bid for the seat at his rural home in Bondo on Saturday.
Citing his experience, the 78-year-old former Bondo MP said he is the best candidate to succeed Senator James Orengo, who is eyeing the Siaya governor’s position in the forthcoming elections.
Orengo, who is among ODM-allied leaders who attended the function, endorsed Oburu as his successor, describing him as a go-getter.
He dismissed claims that Oburu has been riding on the Odinga dynasty to cling to leadership positions, stating that the EALA MP has always fought by himself to secure the positions he has held for many years.
Oburu joins Julius Okinda, Tonny Yogo, and former Alego West MCA Peter Muhula, who have all declared interest in the Siaya senator’s seat on an ODM party ticket.
Oburu served as an assistant minister for finance in the 2008 Grand Coalition government.
