Video of Boda-Boda Riders Stripping Naked a Female Driver in Nairobi Sparks Outrage

Kenyans on social media are demanding the arrest of a group of men who were videotaped sexually assaulting a female driver in Nairobi.

This comes after a video clip of the incident that reportedly occurred along Wangari Maathai Rd (formerly Forest Rd) went viral online on Monday.

The amateur video shows a group of men, believed to be boda-boda operators, trailing the woman’s car before undressing her and trying to pull her out. The victim can be heard screaming as the men strip her naked.

Reports indicate that the attack came after an accident involving the woman’s vehicle and a boda-boda operator.

The video triggered outrage on social media, with Kenyans calling for the regulation of the boda-boda sector to tame such incidents, which have been rampant in recent years.

Activist Njeri Migwi tweeted: “A young woman today was accosted by motorbike riders on Forest road, you can see them actually groping and rough handling her. We have as a country allowed boda bodas to be a law unto themselves. Her screams of terror and fear are a telling story of how we invalidate women.”

Laura Walubengo wrote: "The video of the lady being harassed on Forest Road due to the boda accident. How did we get this low? If we so readily oppress one another... are we so badly scarred that we've such little respect for each other? Boda riders need to be kept in check. Uber style accountability.”

Naomi Mutua tweeted: “The video of that lady on Forest road is heartbreaking. @DCI_Kenya @NPSOfficial_KE, please do the right thing and identify her. We have thugs, sexual predators in our midst. We cannot let this behavior continue unchecked.”

Mwalimu Dida said: “That Forest Road video is a perfect example why tight regulations should be placed on Boda Boda industry. Majority of riders are criminals. Govt should geotag all motorbikes, only sell them to licensed riders and forced them into SACCOs. We are facilitating criminals.”

“Something needs to be done urgently to tame this rogue boda boda industry. What I have watched in that Forest Road video is despicable! I hope that lady gets justice and all the help she requires to fully recover from that traumatic experience. SUCH A SHAME!” tweeted Mac Otani.
