Mastermind Behind Sexual Assault of a Female Motorist in Nairobi Arrested at Kenya-Tanzania Border

Zachariah Nyaora Obadia, the prime suspect in the sexual assault of a female motorist along Wangari Maathai Road in Nairobi a week ago has finally been arrested.

Obadia, who allegedly masterminded the ghastly sexual attack on the woman, was arrested at the Kenya-Tanzania border in Isebania on Monday afternoon.

Sleuths from the elite Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau in collaboration with detectives from Nairobi DCI Regional command pounced on him as he tried to cross the border to Tanzania through a ‘panya’ route.

The DCI says the suspect was scientifically placed at the crime scene before he was tracked down to Mukuru Kaiyaba informal settlement but he narrowly escaped the detectives’ dragnet through a sewer duct.

Police say Obadia was also positively identified on the video capturing the sexual assault incident by his wife and other relatives in his rural home.

The video showed a group of men, believed to be boda-boda operators, trailing the woman’s car before undressing her.

The victim was reportedly driving from Limuru when she knocked down a pedestrian, prompting boda-boda riders to accost her. Police said the woman sustained fractures on the leg and was admitted to Kiambu Level 4 Hospital.

Following the incident that sparked outrage, President Kenyatta ordered a nationwide crackdown on boda-boda operators in a bid to bring sanity to the industry.
