Miguna Miguna Declares Support for UDA Presidential Candidate William Ruto
Kenyan-Canadian attorney Miguna Miguna has endorsed Deputy President William Ruto for President.
Miguna, who was deported from Kenya in February 2018, says it is time for Kenyans to end what he termed as the “cycle of dynastic tyranny” that President Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga are trying to entrench in the country.
“I am today endorsing William Ruto and ask all Kenyans to vote for him so that we can put an end to this cycle of dynastic tyranny. I say this without apology,” said Miguna.
The fiery lawyer claims the Azimio La Umoja camp sent an emissary to woo him to back Odinga’s presidential bid but he turned down the approaches.
“I will not give his name because you will have (a) heart attack. He is from Azimio and a politician from Central province who we were with in SONU. They sent him to talk to me and he tried. Unfortunately, he tried like a hack and so he didn’t get very far. There is no way I can support Raila Odinga,” Miguna stated.
“What they were saying is that even if I was not supporting Raila Odinga I should not endorse William Ruto.”
Miguna also says he decided to throw his support behind Ruto because the deputy president has committed to adhere to the rule of law, respect human rights, obey court orders, and uphold the Constitution.
“Ruto is the only person who said he will allow me back immediately. Raila has called me a barking dog yet I am here for swearing him in. And so, I, Miguna Miguna, hereby declare that Kenyans who are committed to freedom and the rule of law should vote for William Ruto on August 9th,” he stated.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party endorsed Ruto, 55, as its presidential flagbearer in the forthcoming elections.
The deputy president will lock horns with Odinga, who is giving his fifth stab at the presidency under the Azimio La Umoja coalition and has received endorsement from President Kenyatta.
