Raila Says He was Not Aware of Any Impeachment Attempt on President Uhuru

ODM leader Raila Odinga has broken his silence on the alleged impeachment plot against President Kenyatta.

Speaking on Tuesday following a meeting with the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) in Nairobi, Odinga said he cannot comment on the matter as he was completely unaware of any impeachment claims or attempts.

“I am not aware of any impeachment attempts or claims on President. I’ve got nothing to say,” Odinga told reporters.

While meeting over 3,000 Kikuyu elders at State House on Saturday, Uhuru reportedly said that Deputy President William Ruto unsuccessfully hatched a plot to remove him from power through impeachment and sabotage.

Kenyatta explained to the elders that he had to reach out to Odinga to steady the government and ensure peace and stability.

He noted that his handshake with Odinga deflated what he termed as Ruto's grand plan to sabotage his administration and ascend to power through the back door.

Uhuru called upon the elders to mobilize support for Odinga, who is the Azimio La Umoja coalition’s flagbearer in the August 9th presidential election.

Ruto, who eyeing the presidency in the upcoming elections, denied the allegations, terming them as cheap propaganda meant to divide Kenyans.

The deputy president urged Kenyatta to act as a unifying factor instead of engaging in propaganda.

“Please Mr. President, you are the leader of all Kenyans, don’t allow State House to be used as the theatre of planting seeds of division of Kenyans. Mr. President you know it is not true it is false and I want to ask you out of humility to protect the office of the president,” Ruto said in Kwale on Monday.

"Even though you do not want to support me... it is fine. I supported you unconditionally. My friend Mr. President, please do not allow State House to be the arena where falsehoods, propaganda, and negative ethnicity are being propagated against me as your deputy. My friend I stood by you when no other person was ready to stand by you...," Ruto added.
