DCI Summons MPs Oscar Sudi, Caleb Kositany for Allegedly Organizing Attack on Raila's Chopper

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned three politicians over the attack on ODM leader Raila Odinga’s helicopter in Eldoret on Friday.

Soy MP Caleb Kositany, his Kapseret counterpart Oscar Sudi and Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker David Kiplagat are required to appear in person before the Rift Valley DCI Regional coordinator at 9:00 am on Sunday for further investigations into their involvement in the incident.

The DCI says preliminary investigations revealed that the chaos was organized and coordinated by the three leaders.

The incident occurred during the burial ceremony of the late businessman Jackson Kibor at the Kabenes area in a ceremony attended by Odinga and other dignitaries.

“At the closure of the ceremony, chaos erupted and stones including other projectiles were hurled at the former Prime Minister by incited youth,  maliciously damaging his helicopter’s windscreen,” DCI noted.

On Saturday, 17 suspects were arrested in connection with the incident that Odinga claims was politically instigated by his rivals. Police said the suspects were found in possession of cash in Sh50 denominations and mobile phones, which are aiding with forensic analysis.

Deputy President William Ruto apologized to Odinga over the unfortunate incident even as he vowed that his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party will hold to account any member found culpable of the violence.

“I have instructed the party to work with the police so that we can get to the root of what happened yesterday in Eldoret,” Ruto told the press on Saturday.

“Even as we work as a party to ensure we have an election free of violence, I also take this opportunity to apologize to Raila Odinga for what happened to him yesterday, it was really unfortunate and I hope those who engaged in this exercise regret what they did.”
