John Wanjohi Apr 16, 2022

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Moses Cheboi is among prominent politicians who suffered defeat in the just-concluded UDA party primaries.

Cheboi was seeking to defend his Kuresoi North MP seat on a UDA party ticket but lost the nominations to Alfred Mutai, a former charcoal dealer and the current Sirikiwa Ward MCA. Mutai got 17,247 votes against Cheboi's 12,454.

Another big loser in the Deputy President William Ruto-led UDA party primaries is Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru, who was defeated by incumbent MP Amin Deddy in the Laikipia East parliamentary nominations. Deddy marshaled 12,723 votes in the primaries while Waruguru was a distant second with 5,595 votes.

Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara lost to former area MP John Kihagi after garnering 9,991 votes against the latter’s 10,394 votes in the highly-contested nominations.

Keiyo North MP James Murgor was the other casualty after narrowly losing the ticket to Adams Kipsanai, an aide of Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen. He amassed 6,383 votes while Kipsanai received 6,523 votes.

Keiyo South MP Daniel Rono suffered a defeat at the hands of businessman Gideon Kimaiyo.
