Popular comedian Jasper Muthomi, alias MC Jessy, has ditched Deputy President William Ruto-led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

Through his social media pages on Monday, Muthomi announced he is still in the race for the Imenti South MP seat and will vie as an independent candidate.

“Sent like an arrow from a mighty man’s hand. We keep going…Bado Tuko kwa race. Let’s do this South Imenti, 9th August it is,” he wrote.

“Thank you my Boss HE The Deputy President Dr. William Ruto for your counsel, My support For you remains Intact!!!!”

The move comes barely a week after Ruto announced that the comedian had shelved his bid for the Imenti South parliamentary seat.

Ruto said Muthomi stepped down from the race in favor of his competitor Mwiti Kathaara and would take up a role in his presidential campaign team.

"MC Jessy (Jasper Muthomi) will join the presidential campaign team after postponing his parliamentary bid in favor of Mwiti Kathaara for the South Imenti Seat," Ruto said in a statement posted on Twitter.

The comedian launched his bid for the seat on January 19th, seeking to replace incumbent South Imenti MP Kathuri Murungi, who was first elected in 2013.

“It’s now clear where the vision is heading. After many days of consultative meetings with my South Imenti people, I have officially been invited to join UDA. The groundwork that has been done has finally landed on the side of the winning team,” Muthomi announced at the time.
