Martha Karua to Accompany Raila on Week-Long US Trip

John Wanjohi Apr 19, 2022

Nark-Kenya leader Martha Karua is set to accompany Azimio-One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga on his trip to the United States.

Odinga will leave the country on Friday for a week-long tour of the US, where he is expected to meet American government officials, business leaders, and Kenyans in the diaspora.

It is believed that the 77-year-old former prime minister will use the tour to explain his State House bid and his agenda for the country to the international community.

He will first land in Washington DC, where he will hold a meeting with the Black Congressional Caucus and other US leaders.

An itinerary shared by Odinga’s presidential secretariat shows he will jet out of the country on April 22nd and return on May 29th to resume his campaigns.

The inclusion of Karua on the trip highlights her standing in the coalition, having been mentioned among potential running mates for Odinga, alongside Kalonzo Musyoka, Peter Kenneth, and Peter Munya.

Other leaders who will accompany Odinga include governors Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega), James Ongwae (Kisii), former Aldai MP Sally Kosgey, Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang, and Kathiani MP Robert Mbui.

The trip comes weeks after Raila visited the United Kingdom. During his tour in the UK, Odinga highlighted his agenda for Kenya and the reforms he will deliver should he ascend to power later this year.

He met the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and gave an address at the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House).

Odinga was accompanied by governors Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Hassan Joho (Mombasa), COTU secretary-general Francis Atwoli, former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, Siaya Senator James Orengo, and Suna East MP Junet Mohammed.
