Slovenian National Shot Dead by Suspected Robbers in Nairobi
Police in Nairobi are in pursuit of the suspects behind the killing of a Slovenian national.
Peter Virag, 56, was shot dead by suspected armed robbers along the busy Mombasa Road in Nairobi on Tuesday night.
The foreigner was heading home alongside his girlfriend and driver when the assailants accosted them and shot him in the chest. The three had spent time in an entertainment joint at Imara Mall, where they enjoyed some drinks.
The deceased’s girlfriend told police that they were headed to their house at Great Wall Apartments in Mlolongo and had just stopped on the service lane near Cabanas for the driver to hand over the car to Virag before leaving for his Embakasi home. The girlfriend excused herself for a short call.
Shortly after Virag occupied the driver’s seat, two armed thugs emerged from the darkness and commanded the deceased to surrender his phone and money. Virag reportedly declined to surrender the valuables and reached for his wallet then threw it into the back seat.
This angered the robbers and they shot him in the chest before reaching out for the deceased’s phone and wallet containing Sh86,000. They also grabbed the phones of both the driver and girlfriend and fled the scene.
Attempts by the driver and the girlfriend to resuscitate Virag were in vain. Police are yet to arrest any suspects in connection with the incident.
