Kalonzo Musyoka's Wiper Party Resolves to Rejoin Azimio-One Kenya Coalition
The Wiper Democratic Movement Party has resolved to rejoin the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition under structured dialogue.
Over 100 Wiper elected leaders and aspirants drawn from the Lower Eastern region made the resolution following a consultative meeting held at Stoni Athi Hotel in Machakos County on Monday.
“What is for sure is that we cannot work with the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, that’s out of the question,” Wiper National Organizing Secretary Robert Mbui said in a statement.
The leaders said they agreed to rejoin the Raila Odinga-led coalition through a well-structured and transparent agreement, insisting that the initial deal with Azimio was not clear on what the party and the Kamba community would get if the coalition forms the next government.
“I want to clarify that the meeting is fully sanctioned by the party leader Kalonzo Musyoka. He is well aware that all of us are here and he knows the agenda that we are going to discuss because it isn’t about him, it’s not about any individual, it’s about the party,” Mbui said.
He added: “There are certain things we want to make clear. What happens to our party is important to the country considering that Wiper Democratic Movement currently is the third-largest party in the country and therefore everything that we do as a party is of interest to Kenyans since we have followers and members from across the country, therefore, any time we want to make any decision, we must ensure that all of them are clear about the directions we are about to take as a party.”
Leaders present at the meeting included MPs Stephen Mule (Matungulu), Thaddeus Nzambia (Kilome), Erustus Kivasu (Mbooni), Joshua Kimilu (Kaiti), Makueni Woman Rep. Rose Museu, Senators Mutula Kilonzo Junior (Makueni) and his Machakos counterpart Agnes Kavindu, among others.
The move comes just a week after Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka announced his exit from the Azimio-One Kenya coalition after its presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga named Nark-Kenya leader Martha Karua as his running mate.
Musyoka declared he will vie for the presidency on a Wiper ticket and unveiled Andrew Leteipa Ole Sunkuli as his running mate, accusing Odinga of shortchanging him.
