Five People Feared Dead After Building under Construction Collapses in Kitengela

John Wanjohi Jun 24, 2022

At least five people are feared dead after a building under construction collapsed at the EPZ area in Kitengela, Kajiado County on Friday morning.

Reports indicate that a section of the three-storey building caved in as construction was underway, trapping some of the workers who were unable to escape.

Confirming the incident, Isinya Police Commander Ancient Kaloki said rescue and search operations are ongoing.

21-year-old David Chege, who was among the workers who managed to escape, said 10 people were at the building during the 10.00 am incident.

Nation reported that the ill-fated building is owned by a local evangelist who is constructing a school on an eighth of an acre, with locals blaming the contractor for using sub-standard building materials.

"The construction materials used were sub-standard. The house was being built in a hurry. Let the relevant authorities take the responsibility and face the law,” a resident told Nation.
