I'm on My Own: Kabogo Renounces Ruto's Kenya Kwanza Alliance
Former Kiambu governor William Kabogo has distanced himself from the Kenya Kwanza alliance which is led by Deputy President William Ruto.
Kabogo, who is seeking to recapture the Kiambu gubernatorial seat in the August 9th elections, says he is now a man standing on his own after recently withdrawing from Kenya Kwanza alliance campaign trails.
“Things change, right now I am on my own and I am doing quite fine,” Kabogo said during the Kiambu gubernatorial debate on Sunday.
He added: “I do not have a manifesto of any presidential candidate as we speak, I will be dealing with my manifesto which is just to improve the lives of the people of Kiambu and make it easy to survive.”
Kabogo, who joined the Kenya Kwanza alliance through his Tujibebe Wakenya Party in March, had earlier accused the Ruto-led UDA party of intimidating other parties in the coalition.
"It is clear from the foregoing that whereas the UDA Party has no problem with ANC and Ford Kenya candidates in western Kenya, Maendeleo Chap Chap party candidates in lower Eastern and Pamoja African Alliance candidate in the Coast Region, a decision has been made by some quarters that parties with a strong footing in Mt. Kenya region are not wanted in the Kenya Kwanza Alliance,” he said in a statement.
Kabogo will face off with incumbent Kiambu governor James Nyoro (Jubilee), Kimani Wamatangi (UDA), Moses Kuria of Chama Cha Kazi, and independent candidates Patrick Wainaina and Mwende Gabataki.
