John Wanjohi Jun 28, 2022

Deputy President William Ruto is set to unveil the Kenya Kwanza Alliance manifesto at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi on Thursday evening.

Ruto, who is eyeing the presidency on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, is expected to give a detailed explanation of his bottom-up economic model during the launch of the manifesto.

The revival of the country’s economy, lowering the cost of living, protecting micro, small and medium enterprises, and making healthcare affordable to all Kenyans are expected to feature prominently in the Kenya Kwanza Alliance manifesto.

The alliance has toured all the 47 counties for economic forums, with Ruto signing charters with women, education stakeholders, youth, and medical stakeholders.

Ruto's economic team chaired by economist David Ndii has been holding county-based sessions with opinion leaders to collect their views and priorities that anchor the charters.

Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok, who is the chairman of the Ruto presidential campaign, said the Kenya Kwanza manifesto will be radically different from that of the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition. Nanok said the Azimio manifesto which was launched on June 7th, does not address the challenges of the young people.

“Our Kenya Kwanza manifesto could address every challenge which every county faces up to the village level,” Nanok said.

Three teams comprising six governors, MPs and some Kenya Kwanza affiliate party leaders have been steering the Ruto’s presidential campaigns across the country. The teams are led by Ruto, his running mate Rigathi Gachagua and Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi.

Ruto, 55, will be face Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coliation flagbearer Raila Odinga, Roots Party’s George Wajackoyah, and Agano Party’s David Mwaure in the August 9th presidential contest.
