Mimi Sishindani Na Wewe: Ruto Fires Back at President Uhuru
Deputy President William Ruto has fired back at President Kenyatta after he accused him of hoodwinking Kenyans with empty promises ahead of the August 9th general elections.
Speaking during the Ushirika Day Celebrations at KICC on Saturday, Kenyatta slammed Ruto for attacking the same government he is part of, adding that he abandoned his duties as the deputy president to engage in premature campaigns.
“I am really saddened when I see some people ever complaining about the failures of the government… All we are hearing is we will do this and that, why didn’t you do it while you were in a similar position?” Uhuru posed.
He added: “Someone who has been given a task to serve the country, instead of performing his role, he is just busy making noise here and there.”
But in a rejoinder, Ruto asked the president to steer clear of his succession politics and allow him to face off with the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition party presidential candidate Raila Odinga in the upcoming elections.
“When you needed a friend to stand with you, I stood with you. Raila never stood with you, Martha Karua never stood with you, I am not asking for you to support me, I am asking you to give me space so that I can deal with Raila,” stated Ruto.
“I am asking my brother Uhuru Kenyatta, mimi sishindani na wewe my friend, mimi nashindanda na Raila, wewe simama kando. I want Uhuru Kenyatta to step aside, huyo Raila nitammalizia asubuhi na mapema.”
At the same time, the UDA party presidential flagbearer dismissed reports published in a local daily claiming that he would investigate and prosecute President Kenyatta should he ascend to power.
“We are the ones who voted for Uhuru Kenyatta. We voted for him na hakuna mtu atamfuata, hakuna mtu atamfanya chochote, tunamheshimu kama kiongozi ambaye anaenda kuretire,” Ruto said.
“He is trying to correct me, but I’m telling my brother, you told me you wanted to work with the others, if they have failed, what are you blaming me for? When I stepped aside, the Big Four collapsed.”
