Ruto Dismisses TIFA Opinion Poll Placing Raila Ahead in the Presidential Race

John Wanjohi Jul 12, 2022

Deputy President William Ruto has dismissed the latest opinion poll placing Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition’s Raila Odinga as the most popular presidential candidate ahead of the August 9th elections.

The survey conducted by Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA) between June 25th and 30th shows that Odinga would win the upcoming presidential contest by 42 percent of the votes ahead of Ruto, who polled at 39 percent.

Ruto, who is eyeing the presidency under the UDA party ticket, dismissed the results of the survey as fake, claiming that it was sponsored by his competitors.

“These people we have defeated them by all means. We have a better manifesto, we have a better plan, we have a better agenda, and we even have a better campaign strategy. Now they only have two things to do - fake opinion poll. Their work is to concoct opinion polls showing they are ahead of us," Ruto ranted.

He added: “Stop disturbing us with opinion polls, Kenyans are ready to decide on August 9th. Are you not the people who will decide? Or is it those concocting the results of opinion polls in boardrooms who will decide?”

The deputy president was speaking on Monday during a campaign rally in Bungoma County where he drummed up support for his presidential bid and urged residents to rally behind the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

Hio ni ndoto bwana," Ruto said.
