Infotrak Poll: Raila Most Popular Presidential Candidate at 43 Percent
Raila Odinga of the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition party is the most popular presidential candidate, according to a new survey by Infotrak.
The poll released on Wednesday shows Odinga, 77, leads with a popularity rating of 43 percent ahead of his main competitor Deputy President William Ruto who came in second at 38 percent.
“We have Raila with 43 percent which generally translates to 9.4 million votes, he was at 9.3 percent in end of June. Ruto is at 37 percent which translates to 8.1 percent based on the current number of registered voters. He has lost about 300,000 votes because at end of June he had 8.4 million votes,” Infotrak CEO Angela Ambitho said.
Roots Party presidential flagbearer George Wajackoyah emerged third with a popularity of 4 percent while David Waihiga Mwaure of Agano Party polled 0.1 percent.
16 percent of the respondents are yet to decide on the presidential candidate they will vote for in the August 9th elections, according to the survey.
Ruto-led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leads in party popularity with 33 percent followed by Raila’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) with 31 percent. Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya is the most popular coalition with 43 percent ahead of Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance with 38%.
9,000 respondents across 290 constituencies were interviewed during the survey conducted between July 6th and 7th.
