Nairobi Named Among World's 50 Greatest Places of 2022 by Time Magazine
Kenyan capital Nairobi has been named in the World’s Greatest Places of 2022 list released by Time Magazine.
The list was compiled by the US magazine’s international network of correspondents and contributors, with an eye toward those offering new and exciting experiences.
Nairobi is one of 50 places on the list for its “cultural metropolis,” with Time describing the Kenyan capital as “the safari capital of the world.”
The magazine cites Nairobi’s many exciting experiences, including the Nairobi Contemporary Art Institute (NCAI), Eden Nairobi, Kwetu Nairobi, and Curio Collection by Hilton as some of the reasons for its pick.
Time further mentions the newly-built Nairobi Expressway: the $650 million project that provides a long-overdue reprieve from congestion in the city centre, so residents and visitors can access it more easily and quickly than ever before.
The 50 destinations in the list include both classic big-hitters and less-explored spots, but Times says what unites them all is that they are "thriving, growing and changing, charting a path to economic recovery and investing in sustainability."
Some other notable places on Time’s list include Ras Al Khaimah (UAE), Park City (Utah), Galápagos Islands, Dolni Morava (Czech Republic), Seoul, Great Barrier Reef (Australia), Doha (Qatar), Detroit (USA), Kerala (India), The Arctic, Ahmedabad (India), Toronto (Canada), València (Spain), Queenstown (New Zealand), Hwange National Park (Zimbabwe), Historic Silk Road Sites (Uzbekistan), São Paulo (Brazil), and Trans Bhutan Trail (Bhutan).
Others Devon (England) Bali (Indonesia), International Space Station, Kyushu Island (Japan), Miami (USA), Calabria (Italy), Marseilles (France), and Jamaica.
