John Wanjohi Jul 19, 2022

Murang'a Governor Mwangi wa Iria and his Usawa Kwa Wote party have endorsed Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition party presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.

Addressing the press on Tuesday, Wa Iria said he decided to back Odinga after his bid to vie for the presidency in the August 9th general elections failed. He urged Murang’a electorate to vote for Odinga in the forthcoming elections to ensure he is appointed to his Cabinet.

"I am the supremo of Muranga county, some are coming there like kings. They have not even proposed a seat for Muranga county. I am finding myself sitting in the cabinet. I am telling the people of Muranga to rally behind me. Let’s give the 620,000 otes to Raila, We will demand that Raila gives me a cabinet position," said Wa Iria.

The second-term governor said Odinga was the only presidential candidate who admitted that an injustice was meted out on him by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) when it disqualified him from the State House race.

"When others were celebrating Raila engaged me for three hours, we talked man to man. He is the only one who admitted that injustice was meted on me," Wa Iria added.

"He asked for my manifesto and said if he accommodates it will I change my mind. I told him my champion program was dairy farming, we are the only county where milk is 40 shillings. I believe that a cow is a peasant’s kiosk, I told him of my program one home one cow, I believe that is the easiest way to eradicate poverty.”

Wa Iria vowed to team up with other leaders from Mt Kenya to drum up support for Odinga in the vote-rich region and ensure he wins the upcoming elections in round one.

"I will join hands with leaders from the mount region including Martha Karua and Peter Munya to look for votes for Odinga. As a leader from the region,” he added.
