Raila, Ruto Clash over Nyayo Stadium for Final Campaign Rally
A clash is looming between Kenya Kwanza Alliance and Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition over the venue of their final campaign rallies ahead of the August 9th general elections.
This is after both political camps claimed to have booked the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi for their last campaign rallies scheduled for August 6th.
On Monday, Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition party secretary-general Junet Mohammed announced that the Raila Odinga-led outfit will close its campaigns with a mega rally at Nyayo National Stadium on August 6th.
“As the country approaches the general election in 20 days, the Azimio team wishes to thank all Kenyans of goodwill who have turned up in their millions all over the country at meetings, rallies and in person to join in this historic journey to a fair, just, prosperous, and inclusive nation,” Junet said.
“The Azimio campaign team, led by #babanamartha, will hold its last official campaign meeting in Nairobi on 6th August 2022 at Nyayo Stadium. #lnawezekana!”
But the Kenya Kwanza Alliance which is headed by Deputy President William Ruto says it was the first to book the same venue on July 12th.
A contract between Sports Kenya and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party indicates that the alliance booked the venue for use on the 5th and 6th of August. It also shows that UDA has already paid a hire fee of Sh1.508 million.
“For your information and for the public record, the Nyayo National Stadium venue is already secured and fully booked by United Democratic Alliance (UDA)/Kenya Kwanza Alliance for August 6th,” said UDA secretary-general Veronica Maina.
