UDA presidential candidate William Ruto and his Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition counterpart Raila Odinga have praised their running mates for their performance in the Deputy Presidential Debate on Tuesday evening.

Ruto lauded his running mate Rigathi Gachagua’s performance, saying that he has proved to Kenyans his capability to hold the office of the deputy president.

“Congratulations Rigathi Gachagua my very able running mate. Kenyans are confident that in you we have a seasoned, passionate and focused leader to help us steer Kenya Kwanza to victory and the nation to prosperity,” Ruto tweeted.

He added: “We thank Almighty God na ubarikiwe saaana. Never mind the media.”

On his part, Odinga lauded his running mate Martha Karua for her “poise, mastery of subject matters, and staying calm even when provoked.”

“Your poise, mastery of subject matters, and staying calm even when provoked were impressive. I congratulate my able deputy and team member @MarthaKarua,” Raila wrote on his Twitter handle.

“The Azimio family stands proud of your performance during last night's debate.”

Gachagua and Karua faced off in the second-tier Deputy Presidential Debate held at the Catholic University of Eastern African main campus in Karen, Nairobi.

The Presidential Debate is scheduled for July 26th at the same venue.
