Ruto Alleges Plot to Intimidate Voters, Stir Chaos in Rift Valley

Deputy President William Ruto claims that there is a scheme to intimidate voters and stir chaos in his Rift Valley backyard during the August 9th general elections.

Addressing the media on Thursday, the UDA party presidential candidate alleged that President Kenyatta is aware of the scheme orchestrated by four senior security officials as part of the plot to influence the outcome of next Tuesday’s election.

“Having realized they can’t win this election, they want to disrupt this election. They want to cause conflict and that’s why we are calling state agencies and the international community to speak to this matter,” Ruto said.

He named Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Maalim Mohammed, County Commissioners Samson Ojwang (Trans Nzoia), Steven Kihara (Uasin Gishu) and Erastus Mbui (Nakuru) as the officials behind the plan.

“The president of Kenya is aware and we are asking him in his constitutional duty to ensure that the country is safe and to stop this people from planning the evil they are planning,” he added.

Ruto, who is seeking to succeed President Kenyatta, further alleged that chiefs were being coerced by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho to interfere with the election by issuing hate leaflets in a bid to suppress voter turnout in certain regions.

“Chiefs and County commissioners are being forced with threats and blackmail of losing of their jobs if they don’t become Azimio operatives,” said Ruto.

“This two gentleman [Matiang’i and Kibicho] must know there is a shortage of fools in Kenya. Whatever they are telling these chiefs, the chiefs are telling everybody else. The chiefs are complaining they are being forced to sabotage election through bribery.”
